You can contact the Embassy of Vietnam in Singapore for Visa application. At the embassy, you will be taken through a step by step procedure on filling up of required forms, payment of mandatory fees and submission of relevant documents. At the embassy, you will have to fill the Visa application form. Along with the duly filled form, you will have to submit documents such as a recent passport size photograph, a self-addressed envelope and your original passport. Besides submitting these documents, you will have to pay the Visa fees. The amount can be paid in favor of the Embassy of Vietnam by way of money order or cashier’s check.
The embassy will take at least five working days to process your documents. Once your documents are processed, you will be issued a fully stamped Visa. Although this procedure, allows you to get hold of a fully stamped Visa before your departure to Vietnam, there are certain drawbacks. You will have to make multiple trips to the embassy till the process is complete. This can be a hassle if you reside in an area which is located far from the embassy location. Also, your documents will be forwarded by postal mail, which means you stand to lose your documents if your package is misplaced or lost in transit.
An easier alternative to this procedure is the Visa on Arrival facility.
• Apply for Visa on Arrival
In order to apply for Visa on Arrival, you will have to get in touch with a travel agent based in Vietnam. You will have to fill up an online application on the agent’s website with details such as your name, occupation, purpose of visit, duration of stay etc. While filling up the purpose of visit section, you will have to choose from options such as business, tourist and transit. A business Visa provides you a validity of one month, three months and six months. A tourist Visa comes with a validity on one month and transit Visa comes with a validity of less than five days.
Online applications are usually processed in a couple of days. Once your form is processed, you will be issued a letter of approval. Your travel agent can collect this letter of approval on your behalf and have it forwarded to you.
On reaching Vietnam, you will have to submit this letter of approval at the Visa on Arrival counter along with the Visa stamping fees to collect your Visa on Arrival document.
It is to be noted that the Visa on Arrival facility is extended only to those who arrive in Vietnam by air.
