To apply for Visa through the embassy of Vietnam, you will have to submit your original passport, recent passport size photograph and a self-addressed envelope, in which the Visa will be sent to you. The advantage of approaching the embassy is that you will receive the Visa before you leave for Vietnam.
However, there are certain disadvantages of applying through the embassy. If you are not located in Islamabad, you will have to travel all the way to the embassy location to put in your application. Also, you may be required to pay multiple visits in order to get your Visa. If you are someone who cannot spare time for these or if you are not comfortable sending your original passport via postal mail, you can opt for the Visa on Arrival facility.
• Apply for Visa on Arrival
Vietnam offers Visa on Arrival scheme for travellers. This system is preferred by most travellers because it is easier and quicker and more convenient. To apply for Visa on Arrival, you will have to fill up an online application. You can get in touch with a reputed travel agent in Vietnam who can help you fill up the online application. You will have to key in your personal details such as name, occupation, duration of stay, purpose of visit etc. in the online application. Once the information is processed, a letter of approval will be sent to you. You will have to submit this letter of approval along with the Visa processing fees at the Visa on Arrival counter on any of the Vietnamese airports you land in.
While filling up the online application, you will be asked for the purpose of your visit. You will have three options to choose from – business, tourist and transit. The business Visa comes with a validity of one month, three months and six months. The tourist visa offers one month validity and the transit visa comes with a validity of less than five days. It is also important that you mention in your form if you want a single or multiple entry form.
The Visa on Arrival scheme is applicable only to travellers arriving in Vietnam via air. In case you take the land route, you will have to take Visa prior to your departure and carry it along with you. If you are traveling in a cruise ship, get in touch with the cruise authorities for information on Visa on Arrival.
