At the embassy, you will have to fill up the Visa application form. Along with the duly filled form, you will be required to submit one recent passport sized photograph, one self-addressed envelope and your original passport. Besides submitting these documents, you will have to pay the Visa fees. You can pay the fees in favor of the Embassy of Vietnam by way of money order or cashier’s cheque.
The embassy will take at least five working days to process your documents. Once your documents are processed, you will be issued a fully stamped Visa. Although this procedure allows you to get hold of a fully stamped Visa before your departure to Vietnam, there are certain drawbacks in the system. You will have to make several visits to the embassy as this procedure requires the applicant to pay multiple visits to the embassy before the process is complete. Also, your documents will be forwarded ahead by postal mail, which means there is a high risk of loss of your passport if the package is misplaced or lost.
If you are looking for an easy and convenient method for Visa application, the Visa on Arrival procedure is the best method for you.
• Apply for Visa on Arrival
Visa on Arrival is a more convenient method. To apply for Visa on Arrival, you will have to get in touch with a reliable travel agent based in Vietnam. You will have to fill an online application form on the agent’s website. You will have to key in details such as your name, occupation, purpose of visit, duration of stay etc. While filling in the purpose of visit, you will have to choose from options such as business, tourist and transit. A business Visa gives you a validity of one month, three months and six months. The tourist Visa comes with a validity of one month and a transit Visa allows a validity of less than five days.
Your online application form will be processed in a couple of days, after which you will be issued a letter of approval. The letter can be collected by your travel agent, who can forward it to you. On reaching Vietnam, you will have to submit this letter of approval at the Visa on Arrival counter of the airport you arrive in. Along with the letter of approval, you will have to submit the Visa stamping fees to collect your Visa on Arrival.
It is to be noted that the Visa on Arrival facility is available only to those travelers who arrive in Vietnam by air. For those taking land routes, it is mandatory that they carry all documents along with them while traveling.
