• Apply through Embassy
Although Vietnam has embassies in about 70 countries, Ghana is yet to have one established. For this reason, you will have to travel to the nearest country that has an Embassy of Vietnam. This can be quite a hassle because you will have to bear huge expenses in this procedure. You can also check with the embassies in the neighbouring countries is they can help you with the Visa application process over post. This again can be quite difficult as there are good chances of your valuable documents being lost in transit.
The Visa application procedure when undertaken through the embassy will require you to fill up a form and submit documents such as your original and valid passport, a recent passport sized photograph and a self-addressed envelope. Once you have filled up the form, you will be required to submit it along with these documents. You will also have to pay the Visa fees in favour of the Embassy of Vietnam by way of money order or cashier’s cheque. When applying through this procedure in a neighbouring nation, you will have to bear additional expenses of travel, stay, shipping and handling etc.
The easier alternative to this is applying for Visa on Arrival. The convenience and ease that Visa on Arrival procedure offers has made it quite popular.
• Apply for Visa on Arrival
In order to apply for Visa on Arrival, you will have to fill up an online form. This online form will require you to fill in all details regarding yourself and your visit. You will be asked to key in details such as your name, your occupation, travel dates, purpose of visit etc. Once you have filled these documents, your form will be submitted for processing. After the form is processed, you will be issued a letter of approval. The letter of approval can be collected by your travel agent and shared with you. On reaching Vietnam, you can submit this letter of approval along with the Visa stamping fees to get your Visa. You will be charged a certain amount as Visa fees which can be paid online to the agent.
It is very important that you fill in all details accurately as any discrepancy in information or lack of necessary documents can lead to denial in entry and even immediate deportation. Also, you must remember that the Visa on Arrival facility is extended only to those who arrive in Vietnam by air. If you are planning to take a land route, it is important that you obtain the Visa beforehand and keep it with you while travelling.
