At the embassy you will be guided through a step by step procedure on filling up of required forms, submission of relevant documents and payment of mandatory fees. You will be required to fill up the Visa application form. Along with the form, you will have to submit one recent passport sized photograph, one self-addressed envelope and your original passport. You will also have to pay the Visa fees. The fees can be paid in favour of the Embassy of Vietnam by way of money order or cashier’s check.
The embassy will take at least five working days to process your documents. Once the process is complete, you will be issued a fully stamped Visa document. Although this procedure allows you to get hold of a Visa document before leaving for Vietnam, there are certain drawbacks. It can prove to be quite an expensive and time consuming affair. You will have to travel all the way from Kanpur to New Delhi and stay for a few days till the process is completed. Also, in case you decide to send your documents by postal mail, you will be running the risk of losing your documents if your package is misplaced or lost.
The easiest alternative for citizens from Kanpur to Vietnam is through the Visa on Arrival system.
• Apply through Visa on Arrival
Visa on Arrival is a much easier process. In order to apply for Visa on Arrival, you will have to get in touch with a travel agent based in Vietnam. You will have to fill an online application form with your details such as your name, occupation, duration of stay, purpose of visit etc. When filling up the purpose of visit section, you will have to choose from options such as business, tourist and transit. A business Visa comes with a validity of one month, three months and six months. A tourist Visa comes with a validity of one month and transit Visa comes with validity of less than five days.
Usually, online application forms are processed in two to three days, after which you will be issued a letter of approval. This letter of approval can be collected by your travel agent and forwarded to you. On reaching Vietnam, you will have to submit this letter of approval at the Visa on Arrival counter of the airport you arrive in. You will also be required to pay the Visa stamping fees while submitting your letter of approval at the counter.
It is to be noted that the Visa on Arrival facility is available only to those travelers who arrive in Vietnam by air. For those taking land routes it is necessary that they carry all their documents with them while travelling. In case of a cruise ship, the cruise authorities can be contacted for information on Visa on Arrival.
