While applying through the embassy, you will have to fill up a form in English. You will have to mention the place of collection and submission of the form as Vietnam. On filling up the form, you will have to submit documents such as your original passport, a recent passport sized photograph and a self-addressed envelope along with the form. You will also have to pay the Visa fees to the embassy. You can make the payment in the favour of the Embassy of Vietnam in the form of a money order or cashier’s cheque.
The benefit of ‘applying for Visa through the embassy is that you can get the Visa in your hands before you departure to Vietnam. However, there are certain problems with this procedure. You will have to make multiple visits to the embassy before the process is complete. Also, you will have to submit your original passport, which will be sent ahead for processing via postal mail. There are good chances of loss due to misplacement in this method.
Hence, the Visa on Arrival procedure is much preferred. Not only is it easy and convenient, it can also help you save a lot of money.
• Apply for Visa on Arrival
Visa on Arrival allows you to apply for Visa easily from any location. To apply for Visa on Arrival, you will have to get in touch with a reliable travel agent based in Vietnam. You will have to fill up an online application form and key in details such as your name, occupation, purpose of visit, travel dates, duration of stay etc. While filling in the purpose of visit, you can choose from three options such as business, tourist and transit. The business Visa comes with a validity of one month, three months and six months. The tourist visa comes with a validity of one month and transit visa comes with a validity of less than five days.
Once the online form is filled, you will have to submit it for processing. After the form is processed, you will receive a letter of approval from the Vietnamese Immigration department. This letter of approval can be collected by your travel agent and forwarded to you.
On reaching the Vietnam airport, you can submit this letter of approval at the Visa on Arrival counter of the airport along with the Visa stamping fees for your Visa.
