The embassy will take at least five working days to process your documents. Once the documents are processed, you will be issued a fully stamped Visa. The biggest benefit of applying for Visa through the embassy is that you will get a fully stamped Visa in your hands before leaving for Vietnam. However, there are certain drawbacks. You will have to travel back and forth to the embassy location several times because this procedure requires the applicant to visit the embassy multiple times before the procedure is complete. Also, your documents will be forwarded by postal mail, which means there are high chances of loss of documents in case of misplacement.
The easier alternative to this method is the Visa on Arrival method. In order to apply for Visa on Arrival, you will have to get in touch with a travel agent based in Vietnam. You will have to fill an online application form. You will have to enter details such as your name, occupation, purpose of visit, duration of stay etc. While filling up the purpose of visit section, you will have to choose from options such as business, tourist and transit. The business Visa offers a validity of one month, three month or six months. With a tourist Visa you can get a validity of one month and with a transit Visa you can get a validity of less than five days.
Usually, online forms are processed in a couple of days. After your form is processed, you will be issued a letter of approval. This letter of approval needs to be submitted at the Visa on Arrival counter of the Vietnamese airport you arrive in for the Visa on Arrival. You will also have to submit the Visa stamping fees for the same.
It is to be noted that the Visa on Arrival facility is extended only to those travelers who arrive in Vietnam by air. For those taking land routes, it is mandatory that they carry all their documents with them while travelling. In case of a cruise ship, the cruise authorities can be contacted for information on Visa on Arrival.
