The embassy will take at least five working days to process your documents. Once your documents are processed, you will be issued a fully stamped Visa. Although this process allows you to get hold of a fully stamped Visa before your departure to Vietnam, it is time consuming and expensive. You will have to make repeated visits to the embassy as this procedure requires the applicant to make multiple visits till the process is complete. Also, your documents will be forwarded ahead for processing via postal mail, which is highly risky as you could lose your passport if your package is misplaced or lost in transit.
The Visa on Arrival is an easier, faster and more convenient method. To apply for Visa on Arrival, you will have to get in touch with a travel agent based in Vietnam. You will have to fill an online application form on the agent’s website. You will have to enter details such as your name, occupation, purpose of visit, duration of stay etc. in the online form. While filling the purpose of visit section, you will have to choose from options such as business, tourist and transit. A business Visa allows you a validity of one month, three months and six months. A tourist Visa allows you a validity of one month and transit Visa allows you a validity of less than five days.
Once you have filled the form, you will have to submit it for processing. Online application forms are processed in a couple of days, after which you will be issued a letter of approval. This letter of approval can be collected by your travel agent. On reaching Vietnam, you will have to submit this letter of approval at the Visa on Arrival counter of the airport you arrive in. Along with the letter of approval, you will have to submit the Visa stamping fees.
It is to be noted that the Visa on Arrival facility is extended only to those travelers who arrive in Vietnam by air. For those taking land routes, it is mandatory that they carry all their documents with them while traveling. If you are traveling in a cruise ship, you can contact the cruise authorities for more information on Visa on Arrival.
