Applying through the embassy is a pretty simple process. All you need to do is get in touch with the officials at the embassy. You will have to submit your original passport, recent photographs and a self-addressed envelope to receive the Visa document. You will be asked to fill up a form for the Visa. While filling up, select English as your language and mention the place of submission and collection of Visa as Vietnam. Fill in all your details accurately, fix your photographs on the form and submit it along with all other documents.
The passport you have submitted should have at least six months validity with pages left for stamping. Apart from submitting the documents, you will also have to pay the Visa fees. The officials at the embassy will intimate you of the amount that needs to be paid. You can pay the amount through money order or cashier cheque payable to the Embassy of Vietnam. You can check with the embassy officials for information on extra fees such as Visa processing fees, shipping and handling etc. by contacting them over mail or the telephone.
Embassy officials take about five working days to process your form. After this, the Visa will be sent to you in the self addressed envelope you had submitted. This is an easy process and you can have your Visa in hand before you leave for Vietnam. However, it has certain disadvantages too. If you are not located in Islamabad, you will have to invest in some time and energy into the Visa application process. You may have to pay multiple visits to the embassy in order to get the Visa process completed.
It is for this reason that most people opt for the Visa on Arrival scheme. In this scheme, you can apply for Visa online from any location by filling up the application form on the Internet. You will need the help of a travel agent based in Vietnam for online Visa application. You will have to key in your details and wait for the approval letter. You can submit this approval letter at the counter for Visa on Arrival at any of the Vietnamese airports and collect your Visa.
It is to be noted that the Visa on Arrival scheme is applicable only to those travellers who arrive in Vietnam by air. For those taking land routes, it is mandatory that they carry all their necessary documents with them while travelling. In case of a cruise ship, the cruise authorities can be contacted for information on Visa on Arrival.
