In order to obtain a Visa, an individual must hold a valid and original passport. If you are a Nepalese citizen who wishes to obtain Visa, you will have to have an original Nepalese passport with at least six months validity and a few pages left for stamping. You will be required to fill a form with all your details in it. You will have to fill the form in English and mention the place of collection and submission of the Visa as Vietnam. The ideal time to apply for Visa through the embassy is six months ahead of your departure. Along with the filled up form, you will have to submit your passport, one recent passport sized photograph and a self-addressed envelope.
These documents will have to be submitted at the embassy for further processing. The embassy will take at least five working days to process your documents. Once processed, you will be issued the Visa in the self addressed envelope you have submitted. Along with the documents, you will also have to pay the Visa fees which can be paid to the Embassy of Vietnam by way of money order or cashier’s cheque. This procedure will take a lot of time and also incur expenses. Also there are chances that you lose your passport due to misplacement of postal mail.
The easier and more affordable option for Nepalese citizens is the Visa on Arrival scheme. In order to apply for Visa on Arrival, you will have to get in touch with a travel agent based in Vietnam. You will have to fill up on online form on the agent’s website with details such as your name, duration of visit, purpose of stay etc. Once the form is filled, it will take some time for the Immigration department to process your form. Once the form is processed, you will be issued a letter of approval, which can be collected by your travel agent.
On reaching Vietnam, you can submit this letter of approval at the Visa on Arrival counter along with the Visa stamping fees and collect your Visa. It is to be noted that the Visa on Arrival facility is extended to only those who arrive in Vietnam via air. If you are planning to travel to Vietnam by road, you will have to obtain the Visa beforehand. If you are travelling in a cruise ship, you can get in touch with the cruise authorities for information on Visa on Arrival.
