To apply through the embassy, you will have to hold a valid Malaysian passport. You will have to hold a valid original Malaysian passport to apply for the Visa. While filling up the form, you will have to fill up details such as personal details including name, occupation, purpose of visit, duration of stay etc. You will have to fill up the form in English and mention the place of collection and submission as Vietnam. Along with the documents, you will have to submit the Visa fees which can be submitted in the favour of the Embassy of Vietnam by way of money order or cashier’s cheque.
Although you have got the benefit of receiving your Visa before you leave for Vietnam in case of applying through the embassy, there are a lot of drawbacks to this procedure. If you live in area that is far away from the Embassy, you will have to travel back and forth a number of times. The application procedure through the embassy requires you to visit the facility a number of times before the process is complete. If you live in a far flung area, you will have to visit the embassy a number of times, which requires a considerable amount of time and energy.
This is what makes the Visa on Arrival facility much more popular. The Visa on Arrival facility can be availed by contacting a travel agent based in Vietnam. You will be required to fill an online form which will ask you for your details such as name, occupation, purpose of visit, duration of stay etc. You will have to choose from – business, tourist or transit visa while mentioning your purpose of vist. The business visa comes with a validity of one month, three months and six months. The transit visa comes with a validity of one month and transit visa comes with a validity of less than five days.
Once your online form is processed, you will receive an approval letter issued by the Vietnamese Immigration officials. This approval form is to be submitted at the Visa on Arrival counter at the airport you arrive in, along with the Visa stamping fees. Once you have submitted these documents and the fees, you can easily obtain the Visa.
It is to be noted the Visa on Arrival facility is extended to only those who arrive in Vietnam by air. For those who arrive by land routes, it is mandatory that they carry their Visa along with their passport. If you are travelling by a cruise ship, you can get in touch with the cruise authorities for Visa on Arrival.
