To apply through the embassy, you will have to approach the embassy where the officials will guide you on the application of relevant documents, submission of required documents and the payment of mandatory fees etc. You will be required to fill a form in English and mention the place of submission and collection of Visa as Vietnam. Once the form is filled, you documents and passport will be submitted to the Embassy, which will then be forwarded ahead for processing. It is important that your passport has a few pages left for stamping and at least six months validity from your date of departure from Vietnam.
The embassy will require five days to process your documents after which the Visa will be sent to your address in the self addressed envelope you have submitted. Although this procedure allows you to get your Visa in hand before your departure to Vietnam, there are certain drawbacks. You will have to travel back and forth to the embassy multiple times if you live in an area which is not near the embassy. This will require a lot of investment in terms of time and energy. Also, if the submission of valuable documents such as passport by postal mail is not a comfortable idea to you, the approach of applying through the embassy wouldn’t be the best idea.
You can apply for Visa on Arrival instead, if you think that applying through the embassy isn’t convenient. You will have to get in touch with a travel agent based in Vietnam to get an online application filled. The online application will require you to fill in details such as your name, address, occupation, purpose of visit and duration of stay. Once the form is filled it will be submitted for processing. Once the form is processed, you will receive a letter of approval. Also, you will be required to pay the Visa fees to the travel agent via online payment.
This letter of approval will have to be submitted at the Visa on Arrival counter at any Vietnamese airport you arrive to collect your Visa. Along with the letter of approval, you will have to submit the Visa stamping fees to collect the Visa. It is to be noted that the Visa on Arrival facility is extended to only those travellers who are arriving in Vietnam by air. For those who arrive in Vietnam by air, it is mandatory that they carry the Visa along with their passport. If you are arriving in a cruise ship, you can get in touch with cruise ship authorities for details on Visa on Arrival.
