Besides submitting these documents, you will also have to pay the Visa fees. The fees can be paid to the Embassy of Vietnam by way of money order or cashier’s cheque. The embassy will take at least five working days to process your documents. Once your documents are processed, you will be issued a fully stamped Visa. Usually, the Visa issued by the embassy is for single entry. If you wish to get multiple entry into Vietnam, you will have to mention it in your application form and pay additional fees for the same.
Although this procedure allows you to get a fully stamped Visa before your departure to Vietnam, there are certain drawbacks to this system. You will have to visit the embassy several times before the procedure is complete. Also, it is time consuming process and won’t be ideal for you if your need is urgent. Again, all your documents will be forwarded ahead for processing via postal mail, which means there is a high risk of loss of documents in case of misplacement or loss in transit.
The ideal choice in such a scenario is Visa on Arrival. To apply for Visa on Arrival, you will have to get in touch with a travel agent based in Vietnam. You will be asked to fill an online application form which will require details such as your name, occupation, purpose of visit, duration of stay etc. While filling up the purpose of visit section, you will have to choose from options such as business, tourist and transit. A business Visa offers a validity of one month, three months and six months. A tourist Visa offers a validity of one month and transit Visa offers a validity of less than five days.
Your online application will be processed in a couple of days, after which you will be issued a letter of approval. This letter of approval can be collected by your travel agent and forwarded to you. On reaching Vietnam, you will have to submit this letter of approval along with the Visa stamping fees at the Visa on Arrival counter of the airport you arrive in, to collect your Visa on Arrival.
It is to be noted that the Visa on Arrival facility is extended only to those travelers who arrive in Vietnam by air.
