When applying through the embassy, you will be asked to fill the Visa application form in English and mention the place of collection and submission of the Visa as Vietnam. You will also have to submit a recent passport size photo, one self-addressed envelope and your original Cambodian passport along with it. You will also be required to pay the Visa fees, which can be paid to the Embassy of Vietnam by way of money order or cashier’s cheque. Before you apply at the embassy for Visa, ensure that your passport has a validity of at least six months and few pages left for stamping.
The embassy will take at least five working days to process your documents. Once your documents are processed, you will be issued a fully stamped Visa. Usually, the Visa issued by the embassy is a single entry Visa. If you wish for multiple entries, mention that in your application form and pay additional fees for the same.
The major benefit of applying for Visa through the embassy is that you will get a fully stamped Visa in your hands before you leave for Vietnam. However, there are several issues with this system. When applying for Visa through the embassy, you will have to incur a lot of travel costs as this method will require you to visit the embassy several times before the process is complete. This can be a problem if you live in a location far away from the embassy location. Also, you will have to send in your documents via postal mail, which means that in case your package is lost in transit, you stand to lose your documents.
The ideal alternative to the embassy method is the Visa on Arrival method. To apply for Visa on Arrival, you will have to get in touch with a travel agent based in Vietnam. You will have to fill up an online application and fill in details such as your name, occupation, travel details, purpose of visit etc. While filling up the purpose of visit section, choose from business, tourist and transit options depending on the reason of your visit. A business Visa offers a validity of one month, three months and six months. A tourist Visa allows a validity of one month and a transit Visa comes with a validity of less than five days.
Online applications are usually processed in a couple of days, after which a letter of approval is issued. Once the form is processed, a letter of approval will be issued to you. This letter of approval needs to be submitted at the Visa on Arrival counter in the Vietnamese airport you arrive in, along with the Visa stamping fees, in order to collect your Visa on Arrival.
