Your passport should have a validity of at least six months and a few spare pages for stamping purposes. The embassy will take at least five working days to process your documents. Once the documents are processed, you will be issued a fully stamped Visa. Usually, the Visa issued by the embassy is for single entry. If you want to take a multiple entry Visa, you will have to mention it in your form and pay additional fees for it.
Although this procedure allows you to get a Visa in your hands before leaving for Vietnam, there are certain problems that you will have to encounter. This procedure will require you to make several visits to the embassy, which can be a hassle if you live in a location which is far away from the embassy location. Also, your documents, including your original passport, will be forwarded ahead for processing via postal mail. This can result in loss of documents.
The Visa on Arrival process is easier, more convenient and affordable. To apply for Visa on Arrival, you will have to get in touch with a travel agent based in Vietnam. You will have to fill up a form on the travel agent’s website. You will have to key in details such as your name, occupation, dates of travel, duration of stay, purpose of visit etc. in the form. While filling up the purpose of visit section, you will have to choose from options such as business, tourist and transit. A business Visa allows you a validity of one month, three months and six months. A tourist Visa will allow you a validity of one month and transit Visa comes with a validity of less than five days.
Once your form in processed, you will be issued a letter of approval. This letter of approval can be collected by your travel agent and forwarded to you. On reaching Vietnam you will have to submit this form at the Visa on Arrival counter at the airport you arrive in. Along with the letter of approval, you will have to submit the Visa stamping fees.
The Visa on Arrival process is limited to only those travelers who arrive in Vietnam by air.
