The Chinese origin residents living in the area consider the pagoda as a cultural symbol of their community. The pagoda was originally built in 1835 by a Chau Quai salt merchant who encouraged the local citizens to raise funds for its construction.

It houses several precious religious artifacts; and Quan Van Truong, a Chinese military mandarin from the San Kuo period, is worshipped here.{itpsharepoint}
