After submission, the embassy will take at least five working days to process your documents. Once the documents are processed, you will be issued the Visa in the self addressed envelope you had submitted. While applying through the embassy, you will have to ensure that your passport has a validity of at least six months and a few spare pages for stamping purposes. Also, you will be required to pay the mandatory Visa fees. The fees can be paid in favour of the Embassy of Vietnam by way of money order or cashier’s cheque.
The major benefit of applying through the embassy is that you will get the Visa in your hands before leaving for Vietnam. However, there are certain disadvantages too. You will have to personally visit the embassy for the application process, which can be a problem if you live in a place which is far away from the embassy location. Also, you will have to make multiple visits till the process is complete, which means you have to incur expenditure on travelling back and forth again and again. Also, you will have to send in your passport through postal mail. Documents such as the passport are too valuable to be lost in postal mail.
So if you do not wish to go through the embassy for your Visa, you can easily apply for Visa on Arrival. Visa on Arrival is much more convenient and affordable. To apply for Visa on Arrival, you will need to get in touch with a travel agent based in Vietnam. You will be asked to fill an online form and type in all your details. Once this form is processed, you will be issued a letter of approval. Your travel agent can collect this letter of approval for you and forward it to you.
This letter of approval is to be submitted at the Visa on Arrival counter at the Vietnamese airport you arrive in along with the Visa stamping fees to collect your Visa. It is to be noted that the Visa on Arrival facility is extended only to those who arrive in Vietnam via air. Those who take land routes are expected to carry all required documents along with them.
