The other procedure is to fill an online application through a travel agent for Visa on Arrival. More and more people are now giving preference to the Visa on Arrival process because of the ease, convenience and quick system that allows them to get Visa to Vietnam. In case of application through embassy, a person will have to make multiple visits to the embassy for application and Visa collection purposes. However, the Visa on Arrival process saves time and energy in this respect. All a person needs to do is fill up the online application and collect the approval letter through the travel agent. This approval letter can then be furnished at any Vietnam airport on arrival to collect the Visa on Arrival document.
However, there are some regulations and stipulations that every US citizen travelling to Vietnam must observe. The individual should have a valid US passport with six months validity and should have validity for at least six months further to his date of arrival in Vietnam. There are no specifications about vaccinations required to enter Vietnam. The individual will require a tourist Visa. It has to be specified in the Visa application if the individual wishes to travel to Vietnam for business or work purposes. For individuals who are travelling to Vietnam for work, they need to secure a work permit before applying for work Visa.
One page of the passport is to be kept blank for stamping purposes. There are restrictions on the amount of currency that is to be carried into Vietnam. A US citizen cannot carry equivalent or greater amount of current than $5,000. However, there are no currency restrictions on exit.
Payment of fees too is important. There are two fees to be paid – the Visa fees and the Visa processing fees. These fees may differ depending on the kind of Visa secured by the individual and his duration of stay. In case, a US citizen wishes to seek re-entry into Vietnam after his exit, he must apply for multiple entry Visa. Not having the necessary documents can lead to denial of entry into Vietnam and immediate deportation.
In case the passport is lost or stolen, while a US citizen is in Vietnam, he must secure a replacement passport and Visa. In case of an emergency, the US embassy and Consulate General can furnish a replacement Visa in as little as one day.
The Visa on Arrival facility is offered to only those travellers who arrive in Vietnam by air. For those taking land routes, it is mandatory that they carry their Visa and passport along with them. In case of a cruise ship, the cruise authorities can be contacted for information on Visa on Arrival.
